The combative techniques were created due to legitimate need as the priests needed to protect the cloister from criminals who attempted to deny them of their fortunes (History of Shaolin Kung Fu, N/D, para 3). The move starts with a noisy gong and afterward quick paced, conventional music is played which is whistling and tolling. The music is played to help the crowd in comprehension and getting a charge out of the exhibition. The priests for the most part all move together in a state of harmony simultaneously, most of the time in a 3 straight lined arrangement confronting the crowd. This is a creative component on the grounds that the artists have polished their everyday practice with the goal that it is speaking to watch. A smoke machine is utilized when the male artists enter onto the stage and go down the means which give levels inside the exhibition. Author Sophocles Displays A Conflict - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 610 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/05/20 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Antigone Essay Did you like this example? Most teenagers disobey their parents, break rules every once in a while, or rebel out of anger, stupidity, boredom or just impulsiveness. In the Greek play, Antigone, author Sophocles displays a conflict among Antigone, a teenage girl and her tyrannical, ruling uncle, Creon. When Antigoners determination and impulsiveness results in her breaking the law to bury her beloved brother, Creon, with no remorse, automatically sentences Antigone to death. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Author Sophocles Displays A Conflict" essay for you Create order Despite the fact that many characters in the play are flawed, Antigoners impulsiveness results in Haemonrs death, Creonrs downfall, and her own death. Antigoners actions have caused things to spiral out of control, and lives have been lost including Haemonrs; her future husband. When Haemon cant choose between his tyrannical, autrocious, father and his lover, he commits suicide, and soon after, so does Tiresias, his mother. When standing up for Antigone to his father, Haemon exclaims, Were you not my father, I would call you a fool (Sophocles 779). Before exiting, Haemon argues, No- not in my sight- never think this can happen! Shell not die beside me, and you will never lay your eyes upon my face again, so rage with any of your friends who can bear it (Sophocles 776). Those are Haemonrs last words before he takes his own life. If Antigone hadnt acted on Polyneices death, Haemon, and even Tiresias could still be alive, but when Haemon is put in the middle of his lover and father, it is impossible for him to decide where to stand. Creon doesnt know that by putting Antigone to death after she breaks the law, that it will lead to his downfall. Miserably, Creon says, Woe is me, these things will never fall on another person so as to exonerate me, for I killed you, O unhappy I, I claim truly. Servants, take me away right now, take me out of the way. I dont exist any more; Im no one (Sophocles 1323). A very arrogant King Creon wants to remain ?loyal and maintain his laws, however, itrs at the end when he realizes that by doing that, his sonrs and his wifers lives are taken. Before exiting, Creon exclaims, Let this rash man be led out of the way, who, my child, unwillingly slew you, and this woman, you, too- alas! I have no where to turn to, nothing to lean on, for everthing goes cross in my hands, and a difficult fate falls on my head (Sophocles 1247). It is only after his downfall that he realizes the mistakes he has made. However, by then itrs much too late to fix anything and he has lost everything. Pride and arrogance had overcome Creon, and played a huge role in his downfall. Antigone caused her own demise. Antigone is a bit too prideful and does not obey the law that King Creon has set: that no one can bury Polyneices body. Instead of following the rules, Antigone decides to bury Polyneices because he is family and she loves him. However, she doesnt see the bigger picture: death. Ill bury my brother- your brother too, too, though you refuse! Ill not be found a traitor (Sophocles 47). However, Antigone isnt a traitor. She, on the other hand, thinks otherwise. She doesnt listen to obediant sister Ismene either, who tells her she should follow the rules. Antigone argues with Ismene when Ismene says no to help bury Polyneices and states, Use that excuse, if you like, but I indeed will go and heap and tomb for my dearest brother (Sophocles 81). Antigone is being ignorant of her consequences and doesnt take them very seriously until she does. Antigoners teenage impulsivness has resulted in 3 downfalls, two of which being death.

Effects Of A Traumatic Brain Injury - 1906 Words

Introduction A traumatic brain injury also known as a TBI is an acquired injury to the brain caused by an external physical force resulting in total or partial functional disability or psychosocial impairment, or both, that adversely affects educational performance. The term applies to mild, moderate, or severe, open or closed head injuries resulting in impairments in one or more areas. (Florida Dept. of Education 2015) Although I have never met anyone with a brain injury, I wanted to learn more about it and what they go through to get a better perspective. One of my favorite movies is 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. He meets a girl who had been in a car accident with her father years before and suffers from memory loss. Every day she re-lives her day the same as before and every night it’s almost like her short term memory has been erased. She only remembers what happened right before her accident. Until she meets a man who changes all of that. As the mov ie goes on, they fall in love and every day she wakes up to watch a video to show what her life is like now. During the movie she meets a man named â€Å"10 second Tom† who could only remember things for 10 seconds. It really opened my eyes to how blessed we are to remember the little things. From this it is clear that objects can have multiple meanings. For example, a shaver may hold numerous positions in society. It holds its place in history as a social and cultural object, its history can trace the development of technology, there are now male and female versions of the shaver in most of its manifestations (manual, electric, etc.) and it has been designed to suit the lifestyle of the person that uses it as it is either plugged into the wall, carries a battery pack, is designed for travelling or is given a more aesthetic appearance for displ ay on the bathroom counter. Advertising, design and materials have been constructed to suit a particular market and durability has also been taken into account. All these factors are what make this and thousands of other objects what they are. How these elements function together to appeal to the individual’s personal sense of function and appearance is what is referred to as aesthetics. This term is most often used in the art world to designate important works of art. To understand these concepts better, I applied what I have learned about aesthetics to a specific photographic print entitled ‘Smutty’. In looking at photographs or other works of art, it is important to remember that what I may see as beautiful may appear quite different to another person. It is true that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, as John Armstrong suggests. He says aesthetics is the process that ‘enables one person to

A Long Way to Go :: Essays Papers

A Long Way to Go Here is what a couple of SCSU students thought about the recent holiday celebrated as Martin Luther King Day: "We should've killed four more of 'em, and we could've gotten the whole week off." I heard that and cringed. Prejudice, racism, bigotry, discrimination . . . whatever way it is phrased, it still means the same thing according to Webster: "a judgment or opinion formed before the facts are known," or "a preconceived idea which is usually unfavorable." Prejudice is found everywhere, and it affects everyone, not just those being judged. Cringing after hearing the preceding "joke" was the affect that particular racial statement had on me. But I am sure that after reading that introductory phrase, some readers had an urge to laugh. People always talk about how they are "just kidding," or how we should "relax, it's just a joke." However, that is precisely the point. Joking about a race, color, or nationality is not funny--it is discrimination. The word prejudice literally means to "prejudge." In Barbara Grizzuti Harrison's essay entitled "women and Blacks and Bensonhurst," she talks about a high school English teacher named David Zieger. Zieger wanted to clearly present the unfairness of prejudice to his freshman class. He said, "Everyone with blue eyes has to do homework." The lesson was quickly learned. "It isn't fair," they protested. Touchà ©, Mr Zieger, touchà ©. That particular concept struck me as fascinating. To take such a complex, enduring, and painful subject, and to be able to break it down into such basic terms and get the desired result is amazing. Although Zieger probably was not the first to use this technique, his point was made very clearly. Growing up white with exclusively white people, I did not know the first thing about discrimination. My first experience came when I was twelve. It was our first entrance into the Girl's National Fastpitch Softball Tournament, and we were excited. None of us had reached true puberty, and we were all pretty flat-chested and narrow-hipped. Regardless, we were all girls. After beating a team from Kansas quite handily, their head coach, a male, filed an appeal claiming that some of our players were boys. Our parents were appalled, and we were scared, embarrassed, and angry. Though only twelve, I knew this was not right and we were being discriminated against because we were good athletes although we were girls.

Fahrenheit 451 Christ Figure Essay

If any character in the novel represents a Christ figure it has to be Montag. Even though he does not share all the same traits as Christ that does not mean that he is not a Christ figure. Traits of Christ that are applicable to Montag is that he’s around his 30’s, self-sacrificing, good with children, came to redeem an unworthy world, in agony, in a way is unmarried, and is in a type of wilderness with an encounter with the devil. Just like Christ, Montag was sacrificing himself and his life to redeem his society of its unworthiness. For example even though many were opposed to him, thought he was crazy, and wanted him under control, he knew what was right for the people by sacrificing his own life to try to get more books printed for them. He is good with children such as Clarisse (even though she’s not typically a child but an adolescent) by not treating her as if she’s an inferior but like as a friend; which is not how most adult figures in this novel would treat her. Montag himself is in pure agony, even though he may not be physically but mentally. His soul is in torment with so much unanswered to him and he feels the only way to redeem it is through books which holds such vast amounts of information. Even though he is supposedly ‘married’ to Mildred they do not even have love and compassion for one another, just only making them seem like housemates sharing a home. One can assume that his own town can be seen as a wilderness and that the mechanical hound could be seen as the devil. The mechanical hound could be seen as the devil for it shows no sign of positivity but negativity. For example all the hound is programed to do is kill and torture people like Montag, or in this instance Christ. There are some ways Montag could be in opposition of representing a Christ figure such as killing Captain Beatty, but he being a Christ figure does not mean you have to represent Christ in every aspect. It could be seen as more favorable that Montag does represent a Christ figure depending on the viewpoint one choses to look at through.

Advantages Of Cell Phones Essay - 1188 Words

Should students be able to use their phones for doing work and taking test during school hours? Most schools have computers for the students to use at school, so they do not have to use their phones and not be trusted. If students were allowed to get on their phones most of them would probably do the wrong things while they are on their phones. In today ´s society, students are stuck to their phones, and they are constantly on them. When the kids parents tell them to get off their phones the kids just get mad and end up getting in trouble for not listening to their parents. Most of the time the students ´ parents let the students ´ do whatever they want to anyway. Many students would cheat on test if they had the chance to. If they were able to take a test on their phone all it would do is make it easier to cheat on the test. It would do that by during a test, opining another tab and looking up the question and simply coping the answer down from the website they looked up. If the teacher was coming all the student has to do is change the tab back to the test page, and then the student will not get in trouble. If the school supplies chrome books and log them onto the schools WiFi then at least the school can record what the student looks up. That means if a student looks up something bad or answers to a test, that means the will most likely will get caught and will lose their privileges to get on the chrome book. For example if I looked the question to this really hard science test and I got caught doing it, and the principal tells me I lost my privileges to use a device when I take a test because I was dishonest and cheated on the test, so I will have to redo all my test on paper. Another way students could cheat on a test on the phone would be to text somebody that isShow MoreRelatedDiscuss the Advantages and Disadvantages of Using the Subjective Test for Criminal Recklessness, as Used in the Case1294 Words   |  6 PagesDiscuss the advantages and disadvantages of using the subjective test for Criminal Recklessness, as used in the case of G and R (2003) This essay will briefly discuss the meaning of criminal recklessness within the criminal law and the types of recklessness, and see what the current law states today.
